Submit a Pitch

Are you a bold, voicey writer with something provocative to say about being a woman 50+ today? We want fresh, unapologetic ideas that stir the pot, challenge stereotypes, and elevate the conversation for our community of vital, relevant women.

Before you pitch, subscribe to our newsletter and read a few PROVOKED articles so you know what gets us fired up and what makes us hit delete.

Only send pitches—no full drafts unless requested after your pitch is accepted.

A great pitch has:

  •       A provocative working title: Make us curious, make us laugh, make us think.
  •       A sharp thesis: What’s your angle? Why now? Why does it matter to women over 50?
  •       A quick plan: Will you use personal reflection, interviews, research, cultural critique, or expert insights?
  •       A clear provocation: Is it a call to action, a hot take, or irreverent wisdom?
  •       You: If you’re new to us, include a short bio and two or three links to published work.

If reading your pitch out loud doesn’t make you nod, laugh, or think “WTF?!”—make it bolder. Voice is everything here.

Our Tone and Voice: The PROVOKED Difference

At PROVOKED, we stir the pot for women 50+. Our voice is unapologetic, whip-smart, and loaded with wisdom. Opinionated? Always. Safe? Never.

We cover messy personal storytelling, cultural takes with sharp social analysis, researched tech and science, body, diet and wellness, intimacy, humor, money, reinvention, and all of life’s complicated in-betweens.

We want:

  •       Stories with a bold perspective—make us laugh, cry, think, or say “WTF?”
  •       Candor that crushes clichés about aging, femininity, and relevance. Find the tension. Make unusual connections.
  •       A conversational, direct tone. Active voice. Ask questions. Don’t fear debate or complexity. Lean into emotional intelligence.
  •       Ideas that matter right now to women navigating reinvention, connection, and major life transitions.
  •       Articles between 900-1,200 words.
  •       Original ideas—no simultaneous submissions to other publications or previously published material.

Hard pass: Anything safe, recycled, cliché, or fit for a magazine about folding fitted sheets.

A Few Quick Dos and Don’ts

  •       Do: Send spicy, thoughtful, unapologetically you ideas.
  •       Don’t: Pitch stereotypes, already done, or safe topics.
  •       Do: Read our published articles and newsletter—and if unsure, go even bolder.
  •       Don’t: Get preachy or academic. And NO politics.

Let’s redefine what it means to be a woman of a certain age—one story at a time.
